Trees

Trees, known by some as Standing People , are central to shamanic practice.

The original world tree has been identified by some as an Ash and by others as a Yew. I am sure other cultures have considered other trees in a similar way.

Our Celtic ancestors had a teaching system based upon trees , called Ogham and some of the Elder Futhark Runes have tree correspondences.

It seems that trees have a big role to play in our growth as sacred humans. However, they absolutely depend upon us to approach them and as their ancient energy is slow, they like to get to know us slowly as well.

There is plenty of scientific evidence to show that they are capable of communicating with each other and the further we look into their nature, the more wonderful and amazing they become.

The Oak is one of the most sacred trees of our Celtic relations which they name Duir, which also means Door.

The Yew is also regarded as a Door ; to the otherworld, and has extensive properties, being one of the oldest beings living on Earth.

There is so much that we can learn from being with trees. Buddha was enlightened under a tree after all !

The old art of forest bathing, enjoying a resurgence in our time, can be transposed to any contact with a tree. I was blessed to notice during lockdown that trees without leaves actually look like lungs. They have a crown, trunk and roots, the same as we do. Looking at a tree can really help us see how much we are truly related to other created beings.
